Swim club rules in Portugal: what to check before signing
Read the swim club rules in Portugal before signing: they set fees, renewal terms, insurance steps and image rules. Check payment, refunds, the excess and accident deadlines.
Idea in Brief
- The rules start in September. The club’s dates, fees and duties begin then.
- Five clauses need your attention. Find payment, refunds, renewal, the insurance excess and the accident deadline.
- Read the insurance clause before an accident. Its form, deadline and receipts may decide what you pay.
At the club office, a stapled document sits beside the enrolment form. The pen is already on the counter. Read it before you sign, but don’t treat every line as equal. It is the club’s internal rules, or regulamento interno, for that season. Louletano Desportos Clube’s published 2026/27 regulation covers its swimming school and competition groups. It says it governs club life and those activities. It also says Loulé council runs the building. The FPN’s Regulamento Geral forms a wider frame, while pool rules sit beside the club’s rules. Three sets of rules can meet on one deck. The club document is the one your family signs.
The payment chapter often bites first. Louletano’s published 2026/27 school-and-competition regulation makes payment by the 8th a duty and says late fees apply. That monthly fee is the mensalidade. Amarra ao Cais’s published 2026/27 swimming-school regulation adds €1,50 from the 9th to the 15th and €3,00 after the 15th. It gives no refund after payment. A month falls by 20% only after an illness of at least fifteen days, backed by a doctor’s note. The enrolment, or matrícula, may carry its own costs too.
The calendar tells you when a place may be lost. Louletano’s published 2026/27 school-and-competition regulation runs from 14 September 2026 to June 2027 for school classes. Competition groups run to July 2027. A closure of up to seven days for works, staff training or an event brings no fee cut. Renewal starts in June 2027. Priority depends on attendance and payment of the last month. Amarra ao Cais’s published 2026/27 swimming-school regulation required a place deposit by 31 July 2026. It was €25 for returning swimmers and €30 for new swimmers. Half was kept after withdrawal.
Louletano’s published 2026/27 school-and-competition regulation says the matrícula fee includes personal accident cover. It names the insurer and policy, then tells families to confirm the number at the office. The excess, or franquia, is €70,00, taken off any reimbursement. A written accident report, or participação de sinistro, is due within eight days. For a minor, the parent or guardian, or encarregado de educação, signs it. Original bills and a clinical report are required. Some costs recorded by the club aren’t paid back. A missed deadline leaves the family with the costs. This policy differs from the federated sports insurance. Ask the club office which policy covers what.
Image rules deserve a slow read too. Amarra ao Cais’s published 2026/27 swimming-school regulation bars parents and swimmers from taking photos or video inside the pool hall. The same article says enrolment allows the club to use swimmer images to share its work. Louletano’s published 2026/27 school-and-competition regulation bars images taken without approval. These clauses sit beside the ordinary pool deck rules.
Give the document ten minutes. Find the payment date and late fee. Mark the refund rule, renewal window, franquia and accident deadline. Federated paperwork sits beside this. FPN Circular n.º 05/26 of 21 August 2026 lists the records and consent the club needs. The first federated season explains that sequence. Ask the club office about the document. Ask the coach about lanes, training groups and meet entries. Nothing here is legal advice.
Share it with your swimmer
Only a few of these rules need to reach them:
- Under 12 (you’re driving). “Keep your card safe, and tell an adult if you get hurt.” This gives them two clear jobs.
- 12–15 (sharing the wheel). “If you get hurt, tell the coach and me that day.” They can help start the report on time.
- 16+ (they’re driving). “Read the deck and image rules before the first session.” They can take more care of their own duties.
Stay aligned with your coach
You track signed dates and ask the club office about fees, renewal and insurance. The coach decides training groups, lanes and meet entries. Ask the office: “Which five dates and costs should I mark now?”
